Small, friendly, traditional two-roomed corner pub selling reasonably priced beers. Corner pubs such as this were once common in the town but, with many now sadly closed, the Earl of Chester remains as one of only a few surviving examples. The Earl is clearly shown on the 1874 Ordinance Survey. Five TV screens throughout show sport from Sky, TNT and terrestrial channels. Darts, dominoes, and pool is played and teams hosted at the pub participate in local leagues. There is a regular Wednesday night quiz, bingo on the last Friday of the month, Saturday night karaoke, and occasional live music. The jukebox is free to use at all times. The front bar is less busy and quieter than the main lounge and bar areas. There is also some outdoor seating. Both the front bar and the pool room, located off the main lounge/bar area, can be used for functions. The main bar area is decorated to reflect the landlady's love of classic rock music.
